This is an account of how we worshipped in the morning service at Kabwata Baptist Church on Sunday 21 April 2019.
Emmanuel Mkandawire called the service to order by reading from 1 Corinthians 15. We then sang the hymn "Low in the Grave He Lay Jesus my Saviour"
He then opened in prayer. We then sang "Above All Power" followed by the hymn "Jesus Christ is risen today". Afterwards we sang the song "What gift of grace is Jesus my Redeemer".
The pastoral prayer was made by Charles Chakonta. Specific prayer was made for Sierra Leone which is 63% Muslim. The consecutive Bible reading was done by Bobbline. The reading was from Esther chapter 4. We then sang the hymn "When. I survey the wondrous cross".
The preaching of God's word was done by Kasango Kayombo the pastor of Ibex Hill Baptist Church. The text was from 1 Corinthians 15:1-19. (Incidentally, I had read this passage earlier on). Pastor Kayombo opened by stating that the resurrection was like a hinge to the door. At the very heart of the gospel is Christ. The sermon looked at two points: the proof of the resurrection and the problem arising from the resurrection account.
1. The Proof of the Resurrection.
Christ proves his resurrection from the first 5 books of the Old Testament.
There is also proof from the New Testament - Acts 2:25-32. The quantitative proof of Christ's resurrection was that he appeared to 500.
2. The Problem
There is a problem if there is no resurrection.
1. There is no Saviour. You cannot preach repentance if there is no forgiveness. There is no sin that is committed in the entire universe that cannot be forgiven because Christ is risen.
2. There is no gospel. The ungodly are made righteous through the atoning work of Christ.
3. There is no faith (v17).
Faith does not save. It is the Savior who saves through faith.
'My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device or creed,
I trust the ever living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.'
4. There is no truth (v15). If there is no resurrection then it questions the validity of the apostles.
5. There is no life (v17).
1 Peter 1:3.
6. There is no hope (v18).
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4.
7. There is no blessing.
We ended the service by singing "Pass me O Gentle Saviour".
