Things that Surprised me during my visit to the UK in 2019

Widespread tourism: Whether it was the Edinburgh Castle in Edinburgh, Scotland or Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, the River Thames, Westminster Abbey in London the Cotswold tin Tetbury or Royal Gardens at Highgrove for Price Charles,   I was just amazed at the large number of tourists and well organized tourist industry. Well organized transport system: I found the local and inter-town public transport well-organized whether it was the buses, trains or trams. The time keeping too was very good. On the bus from Glasgow to Birmingham, when we had a stop in Preston for a break, we were told to keep time and that if anyone was not on the bus at 02 35 sharp the bus would leave being reminded that it was a long way to walk to Birmingham! The courtesy and helpfulness of people working in public places. In some societies, public workers behave like you are bothering them when they are attending to you. I found the British quite helpful and courteous. During the Conference I atten

Turbulence on Ndola to Lusaka flight

I never knew turbulence happens in my part of the world. It was last night at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola. With other passengers we were on the shuttle taking us to board Mahogany Air. When we thought we were about to disembark and board the plane the aircraft officials informed us that we would board the plane late due to the storms. The plane had to take a longer route to avoid the storms. We finally boarded the plane 20 minutes after the scheduled departure time. We had a bumpy ride with quite a bit of turbulence. The children on the flight (mostly below 5) would scream. I did know whether to laugh or be concerned. But It was not an appropriate time for laughter. Meal services were suspended due to the bad weather. I felt for the cabin crew who have to inspire and make passengers feel comfortable and safe when they themselves could be bearing onward fears. All in all we landed safely at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka 45 minutes later. I am

Marriage: Leaving and Cleaving

Text: Genesis 2:23-25 Preacher: Mwindula Mbewe Preached at Wedding of Edward Chata These words in v23 are not romantic but dogmatic. Marriage means two people becoming one flesh. For this to happen there must be a leaving and a cleaving. 1. LEAVING: Adam had no father or mother. The leaving of father and mother doesn't mean that they will not be concerned about their parents. The bible teaches that children must honor their parents. Leaving means forming a NEW FAMILY. -There will be decisions that they will make or take that the families that they come from would not make. -The new family must be respected because God has formed the family. -Shame on anyone who seeks to undermine what God has put together. -In marriage, water is thicker than blood. 2. CLEAVING Cleaving is holding fast to a wife or husband. Marriage is about holding fast to a wife or husband and not letting go. The word cleaving means holding fast to or clinging as we read in 2 Kings 3:3. The words use

A First Visit to the UK (Part 1)

I embarked at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on a South African Airways Boeing on 7 th  September this year bound for Edinburgh via Johannesburg. The main reason for undertaking this trip was to attend the Ninth Pan Commonwealth Forum on Oat TEVETA. n the TVET sector. The journey from Lusaka took 1 hour 45 minutes. My stopover in Johannesburg was 8 hours while that of Dines was 4 hours. What to do with all that time?   Layover in Johannesburg Well, for starters we needed to take care of our hunger. The wide selection of meals at the Mugg and Bean restaurant within O R Tambo International Airport ensured that we had meals that were not only filling but also tasted good. After this was done and after chatting a bit, I did a bit of shopping and bought a book on 'Leading Like Madiba' by Martin Kalungu Banda, a renowned Zambian author and academician. Dines proceeded to her boarding gate for her flight using Lufthansa Airlines while I proceeded to the
